Origin of sci.techniques.xtallography

After much knashing of teeth, exploring the depths of despair, discovering the pitfalls and jumping through the hula-hoops of Usenet newsgroup creations (finally recovering through the teamwork of crystallographers and other interested parties world-wide), sci.techniques.xtallography was created on the 14th October 1993, after a massive majority of positive votes via email.

Naming the newsgroup (mainly due to technical difficulties due to discovering the unwritten laws© of Usenet) turned out to be a non-trivial event :-
