******************************* DOS installation of SEXIE : ******************************* We suggest to link the main programs sexie.for, inshell.for, makedb.for wavlis.for and infeff.for with a subroutine library made from all subroutines. SEXIE will run on virtually any IBM PC, XT, AT or PS/2 compatible computer running MS-DOS version 3.3 and higher on a processor of the Intel iAPx86 family. As the program code is rather compact, you will need only a minimum of 300 kBytes of available free memory. The exact amount depends on your compiler and dimensioning. If you do not have a hard disk, you will have to modify the installation procedure. The precompiled 32-bit package needs a 386 or higher processor and does require a coprocessor (or 486/586 DX, not SX). SEXIE makes use of the DOS extendend screen and keyboard driver ANSI.SYS, which usually is loaded upon booting by the line DEVICE=ANSI.SYS in your CONFIG.SYS - file for a call to clear the screen. The IBM standard ASCII character set should be used (character code page 437 - do not use the multilingual character sets or the screen layout will suffer). If the results are still unsatisfactory, set icomp = 'VAX' in the SEXIE.CFG file. This restricts the use of ASCII code above 127. See the batch file SEXIE.BAT for details of program control. SEXIE.BAT invokes a viewer to type the output files on screen. It is named README, but any DOS file viewer of your choice can be substituted for it. To receive DOS 32-bit binaries/installation disks please 1) ftp all files from dos_binaries to your PC (use binary ftp) 2) leave a message in the /your_registration directory or e-mail to br@oedipus.llnl.gov. DISKS are not free. BR
