Randy's Curriculum Vitae

Randy Israel was born in Grave (The Netherlands) on the 20th of June 1968. In 1986 he graduated from his pre-university education at the "Kruisheren Kollege" in Uden. Then he started his study at the Academy for Analytical Chemistry (HLO) situated in Etten-Leur. During this study he did some practical training at Organon International B.V., the Pharma division of AKZO Int., situated in Oss (NL) and Billiton Research B.V., which doesn't exist anymore but was a metal division of SHELL and situated in Arnhem (NL). In 1990 he graduated and went to Utrecht for starting his study in Chemistry at the University of Utrecht. He got his Masters in November 1992 with Chemical Crystallography (Prof.dr. J. Kroon) as main subject. From that time on Randy is working, as a PhD-student, at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry (Crystallography) of the Catholic University of Nijmegen, under the supervision of Prof.dr. P. Beurskens. He is working on the development of methods to solve 'difficult' structures, such as modulated compounds, supramolecular compounds etc., by means of x-ray crystallography. During this work he participated in several courses like:

- AIO-school (Birmingham, UK, March 1993) organized by The British Crystallographic Association.
- AIO-school under auspices of the Dutch Association of Crystallography (NVK)(October 1993, 1994, 1995)
- International School of Crystallography, 'Crystallography of Supramolecular Compounds', (Erice, Italy, June 1995).

He has presented results of his work on several national and international conferences:

- Annual meeting of the NSR. (Research school Nijmegen)
- Annual meeting of the discussion-group X-ray Crystallography
- Aperiodic '94, International Conference on Aperiodic Crystals, (Les Diablerets, Switzerland, September 1994).
- International School of Crystallography, 'Crystallography of Supramolecular Compounds'. (Erice, Italy, June 1995).
- The XVII Congres and General Assembly of the International Union of Crystallography. (Seattle, USA, August 1996)

Finally, with his research, he hopes to receive his PhD in 2000.
