The Structure of LiSO3CF3.CH3CN

A ladder chain structure containing four coordinate lithium and tridentate triflate ions

Each oxygen atom of a triflate ion coordinates a different lithium center and each lithium center is coordinated by three different triflate ions to give the observed folded ladder chain structure. The lithium ions complete their coordination spheres through coordination of an acetonitrile nitrogen to give each a tetrahedral geometry. This structure has not been published and is useful for those instructors who desire a higher level of grade security. Besides, it is kind of cute.
