Directions to VT campus
Blacksburg is located on U.S. Route 460 (just off U.S. Interstate 81) 40 miles west of Roanoke in South-West Virginia. Roanoke is the nearest commercial airport. There is a daytime regular bus service and an intermittent shuttle service (Tel 1-800-288-1958) from Roanoke airport to the campus.
Washington Dulles airport is four hours drive by car via Interstates 66 and 81. Charlotte (NC) international airport is 3 hours drive by car on Interstates 85, 77 and 81.
From Interstate 81 take junction 118B (route 460, signposted to Virginia Tech). Follow Rt 460 for about 6 miles until you come to a set of traffic lights where "Virginia Tech" is signposted to the right. Turn right. This is Southgate Drive. Proceed approximately 1/3 mile and pull in at the parking office on your right. They will issue an appropriate parking permit, and direct you to Derring Hall. Do not even think about parking on campus without a parking permit! If you arrive outside of normal office hours, proceed directly to Derring Hall as shown on the Campus Map.
Inn at Virginia Tech
If you are staying at the "Inn at Virginia Tech" on campus, please register with them first and they will issue you with a parking permit. The Inn web site has further details.
To get to the Inn at Virginia Tech by car, proceed along Route 460 to the Prices Fork exit. Take the exit towards "Downtown". At the first traffic light, turn right into the Inn.
Derring Hall and the Crystallography Lab are less than 5 minutes walk from the Inn. Ask at the Inn reception for directions.

Derring Hall
Derring Hall is located on the North side of campus. Parking is available on the north side of the building between it and Prices Fork Rd.
Within Derring Hall the laboratory is located in room 3076 on the third floor, on the north side of the building at the west end. That is, the side facing Prices Fork at the Duck-pond end!
