Installation of the Xcalibur-2
Day 5

Helium arrival

Preparation for the experiments at 10K. The transfer tube has been attached to the tank of liquid helium (foreground) and is being moved into position.
Transfer tube
David Warner is demonstrating the attachment of the transfer tube to the Helijet head which can be seen mounted on the diffractometer.
Aligning the Helijet
Robert Pol is making the final adjustments prior to collecting our first data set at 10K
10K data
This is the first data collected with our instrument at 10K. It is an a-axis rotation photograph of CaSnO3, an orthorhombic pervoskite. The faint powder rings indicate a very small amount of water ice build-up in the X-ray beam, but not much for 10K in the humid environment of Virginia.
